Dr. Zheng Chen is the director of Bio-inspired Robotics and Controls Lab. Dr. Chen is an Associate Professor Mechanical Engineering at the University of Houston (UH). He received B.E. degree in Electrical Engineering, M.E. degree in Control Science & Engineering from Zhejiang University, China in 1999 and 2002, and Ph.D degree in Electrical Engineering from Michigan State University (MSU) in 2009. Dr. Chen joined the Department of Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering at the University of Virginia as a research associate in Sept. 2009. In July 20012, He joined Baker Hughes as a R&D engineer. From August 2013 to August 2017, Dr. Chen was an assistant professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at Wichita State University. Since Sep. 2017, Dr. Chen has been with UH. Dr. Chen is a member of IEEE, ASME, and SPIE. His research interests include dynamics and control, electroactive polymers (EAPs), bio-inspired robotics, biomedical devices, and renewable energy systems. Dr. Chen has received many prestigious awards, such as Kansas NSF EPSCoR First Award in Climate Change and Energy in 2015 and NSF CAREER Award in 2017.
